For anyone driving through Illinois this summer!

ILLINOIS DRIVING INFORMATION for WORK ZONES

Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones starting July 2008.

The State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas designated as 'Work Zones' on major freeways.

Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense, but the SECOND offense will cost $1,000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension.

Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allows insurance companies to raise their rates.

This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city or state using PHOTO enforcement's.

The State will begin with TWO camera vans issuing tickets in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photographs of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken.

Pass this on to everyone you know.

I have lost friends because people are so stupid they can't read construction signs or think that laws do not apply to them. If anyone is stupid enough to speed through these sites, they do NOT need to drive, but need to take a short bus like they did in school.I hate drunks who drive and injure other people who were following the rules so I am glad the penalties are as severe as they are. I just hope it applies to everyone but the people with money always seem to wiggle out of things and it is the poorere ones who cannot afford representation that pay the heaviest price in time and money.

Arizona uses photo radar. I am not a lawyer so you may want to check this but the flaw with photo radar is the "ticket" comes in the mail. Due process say's that for it to be legal it has to be "served" in person by an officer of the court. A policeman catching you on radar that then hands you a ticket is serving you. To be sued or arrested you have to be "served the warrant" or the complaint by an official of the court" If you get a ticket in the mail, there is no way they can be certain you have received the ticket unless they ask for a signature, or unless you show up in court with ticket in hand, thus admitting you received it and the picture they took is of you in your car. Oops guilty as charged thank you, pay your $375 plus court costs thank you. Check it out, due process says you have to be personally served papers. Of course if you do ignore the "mailed ticket" and they send someone to serve you, and you answer your door, you will get served and you will then have to go to court or pay the fine.
But I agree with Debbie, there is no place for speeding through the construction sites, or for drunk driving.
