A Response from Gregory Worth Mentioning

A few days ago, I emailed the classmates for Sheri Dyer Shoff regarding flying the American Flag tomorrow, 9/11. The following is a response that really made me stop and think about the "printed in China" comment. Linda

Under the original constitution a full representation of our flag must be cloth. Not some 89 cent print on plastic. The stars and stripes may be used in advertisement but not in totality. It is to be Hand Sewn. It is illegal to display our flag after dark unless it is properly lighted. Our flag is not to be flown in the rain. When our flag has fulfiled it's purpose, it must be folded in the proper manner and burned.

My uncle James Cody would have more knowledge of that procedure than I. I honor the Americans that died that terrible day. The firemen and policemen that voluntarily went into that holocaust knowing that they would probably not come out, these Americans are heroes, death be damned! There is no dishonor in being murdered. The people who fought back and drove the airplane into the ground knowing full well of their own imminent death, shall forever be heroes.

Had I sewn a flag to the requirements or knew beyond doubt, I would fly it proudly, but not something PRINTED IN CHINA. I will honor with wonder their courage and hope with every fiber of my being that I would make the conscious choice to risk death in defense of others.

The butterflies in the pit of my stomach and the hair on the back of my neck can't tell the difference between "Made in American" and "Made in China".
They react the same way when I see the flag flying, whether it be at reveille, tapps or just driving by Perkins on a windy day.
Our flag has been a symbol of hope and freedom for over 200 years, all around the world. The site of it has struck terror in the hearts of our enemies and hope in the hearts of those it has come to aid. I seriously doubt if they stopped to wonder "Made in China" or "Made in America".

Just my two cents worth.

Even though his comments made me stop and think - I tend to agree with you, Rich.

While I don't want to "do the wrong thing", I don't want to be unpatriotic either. Sometimes, in our world today, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

I'd rather take a chance and be a "doer" any given day!

Well said, Rich!

I had tons of flags out and flying and some of them were made in China because we don't make much here anymore, we are a user nation and this must change. I flew the flags anyway because a label is not going to stop me from doing what is right, including voting RIGHT.

I happened to find many websites where American flags made in the good ole USA can be purchased. I too get chills and goose bumps when I see our flag flying proud. I don't stop to ponder whether the flag was made in the USA or some other country. The symbolism of the red, white, and blue gets the same reaction regardles of where it was made. However, it does irk me when I do see that tag "Made in China".
