A Medley of Character

A definition of medley is a mingled and confused mass of ingredients. That’s what I see when I look at our next profile; a seemingly confused mass of ingredients that are perfectly blended to form our own Medley. Stan Medley also known as Dedley Medley an avid gun collector; Stanford Olin Medley serving his country in the military and at work; as well as, Dudley DoRight the father and husband.
Dedley Medley’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, snow-skiing, and hiking out West. Dedley is a passionate gun collector who enjoys target shooting. Don’t be surprised to receive an email shot from Stan using this alias.
After graduating from CM, Stan attended LCCC for a semester while working at Beiermann's Conoco. Tuition got to be too much, so he joined the Army in Feb 1973. After basic at Fort Leonard Wood, Stan went to Massachusetts to train in Army Intelligence and was shocked to see Mike Calvert staying in the same barracks. Stan spent one year in Thailand at a small radio research field station and spent the rest of his three-year stint in Fort Hood, Texas.
Two weeks after the Army, Stan hired in at Olin. He says, “How could I work anywhere else with my middle name?” While working hourly jobs, Stan went back to LCCC using the GI Bill and received his Associates of Science in Business Administration. This helped him to go salary at Olin as a supervisor. After working as Foreman for about 10 years, Stan bid on an Industrial Engineer job and is now one of three IE's for Winchester. Stan says “It’s an enjoyable job that challenges me with something different every day. This year was my 30th year at Olin.”
In 1989, Stan’s son Olin Andrew Medley was born. Stan was living with his son’s mother when she moved out giving him custody of their son. Stan played the part of a single parent until 1995 when he married Sherri Chaney, a gal he had dated in the early eighties. She has two daughters, one the same age as Stan’s son and one who is four years older. The oldest daughter is now attending SIU in Carbondale, and the youngest daughter and son are seniors in high school.
The Medleys live on 11 acres in Dorsey and have 3 big dogs, numerous cats, hundreds of ducks and geese. They even had two horses for several years. It’s no wonder since Sherri works at Hawthorne Animal Hospital and was a registered wildlife rehabilitator for several years. Stan says “You never knew what you would see when you walked in the house.”
Stan’s profile radiates goodness and maturity and dedication to his son, his wife, his two stepdaughters, his job, and his hobbies. Maybe that’s why Dudley DoRight comes to mind. It seems Stanford Olin Medley just does right, even though he was waaaay too willing to strip for a picture I wanted to take of him at the bonfire back in October!

Still soaring with the eagles, ever the boy scout and soldier. Hope your progeny turns out just like you!
SOME things never change...just look at that smile!
Years later, without ever again looking at my yearbook, I could remember what Stanford wrote, "To a girl I always look up to." He was, of course, referring to the difference in our heights. It cracks me up everytime I think about it. You're still a riot. Love ya!
Stan and I use to see eye to eye. Imagine my surprise when I had to find a step ladder to do that 34 years later! I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Stan at the bonfire...it only took me 30 minutes to figure out who he was. Great guy! Who would know all of that good stuff without a profile! Thanks.
