JANUARY ROLL CALL

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

This month the topic of discussion is of course none other but New Year resolutions. Yesterday while enjoying my second helping of chicken in peanut butter sauce at the All-You-Can-Eat Chinese buffet, I noticed that my comfortable “fat” pants were now uncomfortably snug. I think I mentioned in a previous post about the nonstop procession of birthday celebrations that hit full swing in October and end with my daughter’s birthday on the 22nd of December. By the way, we “began” celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday at Amarillo Tex’s. Right after the servers brought out the birthday goodies and sang their ditty; Tiffany turned to me and said “Hey, Mom there’s that guy from your class reunion site! The one with the purple hair.” It was John Walker but without the purple hair. Back to the fat pants. The inevitable is to buy bigger clothes or drop the pounds. It’s not that I mind resembling my little-round-lady gourd dolls, if it weren’t for those darn numbers…cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, systolic/diastolic, not to mention the $$$ for medication. So predictably my one resolution is to get myself down to a healthy weight. I should probably make a few more but I think I’ll just tackle one at a time.
Have you made any resolutions that you are willing to discuss in public? What about past resolutions that you were successful at keeping? No resolutions at all? Tell us about it.
Like last month there will be a small prize given away but you must post to be included. This time around there will be two drawings on the 15th and also, unlike last month, this month there will be no exclusions. Everyone posting will be eligible for the drawing. Good Luck with those resolutions and HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! Helen Downing Eyers

New Year resolutions? I avoid making them. Why set myself up for failure, right? However, I would like to get into better physical condition before it's too late to do something about it. So, my goal for the new year is to become more physically active. By the way, another nickname I have besides the one Lois has given me (peachy girl) is tater, you know, as in couch potato. Not to mention the fact that I love eating potatos.

I have a couple of resolutions:
1) Start eating to live, not living to eat. Not a diet, just healthier eating. I've done it before and know I can do it again. I feel very uncomfortable with my body right now. There is a certain weight/size where I feel much better. That's my goal. I'll be honest and tell you if I hit it or not.
2) It's the "E" word! I'm going to start a regular exercise program. Starting small and building up as time progresses. I'm going to live a long life and need to be able to get up out of a chair without groaning!
3) Dr. Steve has inspired me to finish more of my "stories". I'm not sure I have a book in me but I'm certain I have a lot of short stories. I'm going to shoot for one typed page per day as a minimum. It's a start.
4) I'm going to learn to swim for real - not just flap my arms in the hopes of not drowning!
How about you guys?

I think I will copy Linda's #1 and #2. If I don't I'm not gonna be around for the reunion.
P.S. who the heck is Ladyxandria?

I would like to see Linda learn how to swim so I can go off the high dive at Bethalto pool again. (can't swim, someone has to save me)
Also, Linda, I will cheer you from the sidelines to write your short stories and when you get published, I will pay you $24 for a signature.
Peachy girl (or is that tater tot?)
I'll be pulling for you to achieve all of your goals.I burned my couch, might try that.
Cheryl, you're perfect just the way you are and reunion ready! Now, say that back to me :-)

eachy girl aka Tater - I lost 52 pounds in 4 months while following the Mastering The Zone Diet - doctor recommended. Of course, I was working 10-12 hour days at the time and was much more active than I had ever been. I'll cheer you from the sidelines in whatever you choose! You go, girl!

Cherylee - Who knows who that chick is. I think she has the hots for Santa-baby though but Santa can't respond to her without giving up his/her identity. Good luck with #1 & #2. I'll be rooting for you.

Lois aka Chlolita - You told me how Debbie Miller Mitchell used to save you when you'd jump off the high dive. If she's not around, I'd be happy to reach down and pull you out! It's comforting to know I have a future income as a writer. Thanks.

My new year's resolution is not going to be working on my extra 10 lbs., that's a losing battle. My goal is to get 6 years worth of photos sitting in boxes into albums. I know, one day soon I will be going digital, but in the mean time, there are boxes all over the spare bedroom full of pictures. I will also be getting a new computer. We are still running Windows 98! It's a great computer, never given us a problem, but can't be upgraded. Anyone have any suggestions on a good brand for a desktop?

MS CARLOTA (AKA PEACHYGIRL AKA TATER) GIVES 2007 CMHS BLOG REUNION PREDICTIONS

lindawright will complete many short stories. She will become the first swimming short story author known to pluck a floundering high diver from the depths of the Bethalto pool.

Cherylee will make a great discovery and tell the world ( the CMHS bloggers) who Ladyxandria is. She will go on to to follow in the footsteps of lindawright by acheiving Linda's #1 and #2 goals.

Shultzie will find the perfect computer and will make great strides in the digitized photo world.

Cholita (aka Lo) will continue to be an inspiration by cheering everyone on. Not only will she inspire others but she will also bring smiles to faces of many CMHS blogger's.

I would like to be debt free in 2007. Anyone with extra cash may send it to Arkansas. You can claim it as a charitable contribution on your taxes.
Have a happy new year everyone!

Carla I guess you could see it that way but if avoiding resolutions is avoiding failure then wouldn’t it be avoiding success also? I quit smoking about 15 years ago and it took me three tries. I didn’t look at the first two as failures but more like trial runs. We are all works in progress. Best of luck what ever you go for.
Linda I hear you on feeling uncomfortable. When my weight goes up so does my PAINFUL acid reflux. That’s always a good incentive for dropping the pounds. I need to exercise also. I used to go to CURVES and it really helped me. Not only did I trim down but I actually developed muscles and stamina. I just don’t have the time now to run to the one in Rosewood Heights. If there was one here in town I know I would make it a point to go at least 3 X a week. I think writing those stories is an excellent goal. I would love to read them.
Connie, I can’t imagine sorting all my photos. I’d probably have to have help. I’ve switched to digital and even though we can store them in various ways I still like the old fashion hardcopy to look at. Good luck at that task.
Debbie, I'll be in debt for the rest of my life so can't even consider that as a resolution. Can't send you any money but can send you lots of best wishes!

I forced my family into identifying pictures years ago. My mother inherited all of her aunt and her mother's photos some as far back as the mid -1800's. Thankfully, the older ones had identification on them. I used to bug my mom 'cause I nicknamed one of the pictures as my great-grandma Ugly - a lady in the 1800's named Sarah Jones Cummings. Later in life, I spent about 5 years researching our family tree and discovered that Sarah was, indeed, my great-great grandmother. That woman looked strong enough to hold a cow up with one hand and milk it with the other.

It's tedious to write legibly on every photo but necessary for future generations - so do it for the sake of future genological researchers!

P.S. Never, ever put your photos in the albums with the sticky backing. Typically, all the identification is written on the back of the photos and after time, that stickiness doesn't want to let go without steaming.

My son swears on the MacIntosh computers - he has 3 of them. I currently have a Dell and like it just fine. I'm using one of my son's Mac's right now since I'm visiting him and it's ok. I'm certain I don't appreciate it the way he would like me to.

Happy New Year everyone! Kisses to all.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
I enjoy reading all the blogs and want to thank all those who work so hard to keep this site and the news letter up and running.

I really have no New Year's resolutions. However, like many others, I would like to loose some weight. Fifteen pounds would do it. I also, really need to quit smoking. So, I guess those are 2 things I will be workin' on for 2007.

As for the writing, Linda, GO FOR IT. At 50+ years, the resouce material is already gathered, so GIT ER DONE.

Shutzie, on computers, I really like my Compaq Presario's. So much so that I just got a new one before Christmas. My wife and I can be on at the same time, now.
Linda, don't know if I would swear my me Compaq, as that is all I have experience with, but I have been known to swear AT it a time or two. Like last month when we nearly lost all our data due to a worn out HARD DRIVE.

I wish each and everyone of you a very prosperous and happy new year. Good Luck with all the resolutions. You will all be the 1st to know when the NO SMOKING lamp gets lit at my desk. It will be the hardest thing I have ever done and I will be soliciting your prayers and support to help me along the way.

I must go clear SNOW, now. Yes, we got snow yesterday. Everything is white and clean. Sure hope it doesn't last long. Yeah Yeah, I know, I live in Minnesota, what should I expect?LOL

Happy New Years, everyone.....& thanx also to everyone working on the reunion & keeping the blog going. Resolutions..??....like most, I should shed some pounds....over the years I've tried to be conscious of what I eat...always do some veggies & fruit but them ribeyes & burgers are hard to turn my nose up at....exercise?....getting my self down on the floor & back up numerous times a day sounds like exercise to me...not sure when I would fit in anything like going to the Y.....I AM a workaholic....but as far as making/writing down resolutions.....it's too much like breaking a promise if ya don't follow through.....a promise to yourself.......I just try to keep in mind....'all things in moderation'.....;-)...Best wishes to all & lookin' forward to seein' ya at the end of the summer....

After giving it much consideration (NOT), I have come up with my New Year's Resolution List as follows:

1) I will maintain my current weight
2) I will continue taking blood pressure pills because I maintain my current weight
3) I will continue to consider the walk from my car into Walgreens, where I purchase my blood pressure pills, as exercise.
4) I will huff and puff each and every time that I walk the flight of stairs at my doctor's office
5) I will kiss the $20 bill goodbye that I leave with my doctor as copayment
6) I will continue to buy fruit and vegetables each time I go to the store, only to put them in my garbage disposal when they turn to mush in my refrigerator
7) I will buy new clothes when the old ones no longer fit

Need I go on?
Happy New Year to everyone. Looking so forward to Reunion 2007!

Cheryl, I think Ladyxandria was just visiting. Kind of a reminder that we are not alone here on the world wide web.
Rich, sounds like you enjoy the same humor that my husband does. I think those guys are funny too. Go to Google, type in redneck wedding then select images. Some funny pictures there, although the 4 tiered wedding cake of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Ho Hos is kind of cute.
Gwen what about some non diet and exercise related resolutions? I thought of two for myself. Sleep more and make an even greater attempt at the 3 Rs - recycle, reuse and reduce.
Marsha, the hardest part of advertising on the web is getting people to look at your site. I belong to a few other groups and I intend to post the link for them to look at your site. Do you have a hit counter?

Resolutions, mine is not to make promises to myself I can not keep. But given the chance, I will slow down at work just enough to make the CEO wonder if I really want to keep doing this, but not enough that they ask me to stop doing it!
I want to play a minimum 60 rounds of golf this year (not counting work related customer events.) I should have 5 rounds in by January 9th so I am on my way towards that one. (With a single digit handicap for more than 25% of the time!)

Happy New Year Everyone. I hope everyone gets a little more of what they need and the year is a happy healthy and satisfying year for everyone.

Rich, My new desktop calendar, compliments of a special classmate, today tells me one of the 365 Great Things About Geting Older: Gray hair has more body.

At Thu Jan 04, 12:54:00 PM CST, Blogger LindaWright said...

Gwen - That gray-hair-has-more-body story is a bunch of bologna!

Back in my "perming" days, my hairdressers would BEG me to color my hair a week prior to the perm job. This was to make my hair be more manageable. Oftentimes, "stubborn" and "difficult to work with" crossed their lips while working with my non-dyed hair.

I must be experiencing my second childhood now since I go weeks at a time without seeing any gray hair on my head!
