ROLL CALL AND A CHANCE TO WIN!!!

Check in on the CMHS class of 72 monthly Roll Call and get your name in on a drawing to win a small prize. It will be very simple and will only require that you answer a little question about yourself. Your answer must appear on the blog (http://cmhs-registry.blogspot.com/) so if you haven’t posted previously, now is your chance to jump in. You can post as often as you like to the question, but your name can only be put in the hat once per drawing. The question will appear on the blog on the 1st. You may respond through the 14th and the winner’s name will be drawn and posted on the 15th. Prizes will be mailed to the winner unless other arrangements are made.

Since Christmas is just around the corner, the first question will be “What’s your favorite holiday food/dessert?” You can keep your answer simple, or expound on the joys of eating. We just want to hear from you! The prize for this first drawing will be a hand painted gourd ornament from me, Helen Downing Eyers. Sorry, our volunteer “panel” will not be eligible for the prizes (they know who they are). Looking forward to hearing from you all about those holiday goodies!

Food, it’s something we all have in common and we do have our favorites. Mine would be anything pumpkin. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin pie blizzards, pumpkin roll, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin coffee creamer, you get the idea. Come January I don’t want to see or smell anything pumpkin until November rolls around again! If you are reading this I hope you will take a minute to say a few words. We want to hear from you. Happy Holidays!

Hey folks,
I'm sure no stranger to good eats and my all time favorite is my homemade pecan pie. I have the old family secret and I will share with y'all if you would like to try your hand at making a pie...mmmmm, pie. Georgia is known for tasty pecans in addition to peanuts, Vidalia sweet onions, and Claxton fruitcake. Just thought I'd through in some Georgia culture. Ha!
There's nothing better than a good old country Christmas with fried ham, homemade biscuts and gravy, eggs cooked to order. Yummy! If that don't get your taste buds going, nothing will Talk. Not the healthiest food but it sure does taste gooooood!

Seafood is the big favorite here in Maryland. My friend has a Christmas Eve open house for 100 or so of her closest friends and always has shrimp cocktail, hot crab dip, seafood lasagna, and seafood newburg, along with other goodies. The places selling seafood have lines wrapping around the building with customers lining up to make their purchases to prepare the Christmas Eve feast. Coincidentally I just love seafood!
My other favorite would have to be pecan pie. Send some up my way Carla!

Having spent some time in Georgia in years past-in Atlanta and also way over on the coast on St. Simon's Island-I wholeheartedly agree with Carla about the Georgia fried ham & eggs with country biscuits. Yummy!
Cheryl, have you ever tried banana fudge? It is another of my Mom's specialties and it is great (if you like bananas, that is.) Love divinity, too. In fact, nothing anyone has mentioned yet is scratched from my diet.

I loved walking into our house as a kid during December and smelling the tangerines and nuts that Mom would have set out on the coffee table. Anytime I smell a tangerine it takes me back to a Christmas memory.

My mom didn't care to cook much. She always said there were more important things to do in life. She even tried to convince the family that she was THE original Mrs. Smith. So when we ate Mrs. Smith's pies during the holidays...
She is a character!
She did have an awesome recipe for some Pennsylvania Dressing though. It had sausage, onions, apples and raisins in it among many other things. In later years, all the rest of the family liked Stove Top Stuffing better so I lost out.
Anna, set the table for one more this year. I want some of that seafood!

My favorite is the muddy Mississippi's Catfish fried. My mom and dad would take me to the "Moonlight" resturant and that's the only thing I would order. I try to get it every time I go back home. There is no place like the Mississippi for catfish. My second best is the fish sandwiches that used to be sold at the Bethalto Homecoming. I think the VFW had a beer stand that sold them. I guess I like anything fish really.

Hey Flora,
Did you get my email this morning? Please contact me so we can arrange what day we'll go fishing - cool?
Does anyone remember the Bethalto Fish Market on the corner of Prairie and Hwy. 140 around 1984? Does anyone know who owned it?

Flora, I agree the Fish sandwichs at the Homecoming are always a hit. I try to get a couple everytime I get back for homecoming. Put a little tabasco and tarter sauce on them MMMM MMM like it.

I am getting my dictionary and checking the definiton of GOOD. I am sure Good could apply to many aspects of your year and character Dr Steve, and you didn't claim to be 100% good in all aspects, you did just say GOOD. So I guess I believe you.

What year did you sell the store?

Hi Everyone!
When I was a kid and even today two of my favorite holiday desserts were made by my grandmother and an aunt. Cranberry salad with pieces of orange and pecans, also Waldorf salad with apples, celery, walnuts, grapes and a creamy dressing made of mayonnaise and possibly heavy whipping cream or half n half. I also like pumpkin pie! yummmmmmm

Okay, so I finally figured out how to get into the blog! Hi everyone!
My favorite holiday food was Christmas cookies my grandma used to make. She made them all from scratch, there never was a written recipe, so all I have are the memories of 8 - 10 turkey roasters full of different kinds of cookies. With 8 grandchildren, she had a lot to feed. Happy Holidays and don't eat too much!

My favorite Holiday food was my mothers dressing. Unfortunately my parents both died in 2003 and that is one thing I did not learn to make...I regret not paying more attention when she made it...I was too busy tasting it.....My dad and I were always the "official tasters" when mom cooked.
Debbie Terry...So sorry I missed your call the other day...so glad you are connected now. I do much better with email than phone calls and snail mail...email me.....

Good grief, is it the 15th already? Well, between watching Top Chef and reading all these mouthwatering comments I'm starving! Later today I'll gather up names and have the baby draw. The winner will be announced at that time. Thanks to all that participated!
