Never Fear!
Some of you have voiced your concern regarding the recent news about the location for our 35th Reunion. It is sad, but true - The Boat at the Riverbend is closing down and will not be available to us. We have already received our deposit back from The Boat.
We want everyone to know that we've booked Julia's Banquet Center in Alton for the Reunion. More details about Julia's will follow.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and Remember Our Troops!

That's fine, but I had an idea that could have been fun. Unless we have a huge response, I think the renovated upstairs banquet room at Klein's in Bethalto could have been a neat nostalgic place. It's probably not big enough but it's a neat setting. We would have had to decorate and cater the meal, but it could have been a fun spot.
Sad to hear the boat is shutting down. Seeing all my ole classmates and friends is the important thing so it really does not matter to me where the reunion is held.
remember gettin' cherry cokes at Kleins soda fountain?....walked past that place a lot of times....yeah....any place is good...any idea how many we think are plannin' on makin' it?...any other Eagle members out there?.....the Alton club has a decent place w/ bar & kitchen, etc.....a member could prob get pretty resonable....
folks, the deal is done. there are indeed many places it might have taken place, including one of those hayrides that ben albers specialized in. you know, i didn't know that my parents paid for one of them. but julia's, it is. the deposit's been made and food ordered. we moved quickly. like eagles, dennis. when we were young. we'll pretend we're on the boat.
I agree with Carla: I do'nt care where it is, as long as classmates are there. I didn't know Klein's had a banuet room--was there always one there?? I don't rememmmber cherry cokes but they had an ice cream thingie called a "Princess,"I think and it was about the best ice cream concoction I've ever tasted.
To echo Dennis, does anybody have an idea of how many people will be there? I can't wait!
Steve, hope you got into the house all right. I'd like to come by sometime (will call first)to laugh at your jokes & to see it. That's a really nice area out there. Congrats again.
I've booked my flights. Will see ya at Julia's!
I hear there's a lot of people planning to come, so we'll all meet at Julia's then.
Can't wait!!
Julia's it is and all is well. Just give me directions and I'll be there. I can't seem to talk my husband into this event, and from what I've heard, I don't want him there...he'd be bored stiff. Do you need some more money???
I will be there spouseless too, no interest on Mrs Robinson's part, so I will be there stag. Just waiting for the Southwest Ding Fare to ding on my computer, so I can save a buck or two, so I will have a couple of bucks, in case Bob Meyers beats me on the golf course. (Reunion Rematch planned from our AZ trip!)
See you all there.
Now golfing is another story Bill. Should I mention it to my hubby or leave that for all you guys who graduated together? Are outsiders welcome?
It's always nice to meet someone's spouse but I agree with Sheri that they'll be bored to death unless they already know somepeole well. I went to one of my husband's reunions up here when we were younger and It was dismal for me. Everybody kepy looking at me like "who is she? was she in our class? did we hav any classes together? One woman even came up to me and told me that she remembered me from some guy[s class! I thought then: I'm either eminently forgettable OR I look like a LOT of other people. We decided then that we wouldn't make either of us go to another reunion.
At the same time, it's nice to have a designated driver.....
Deb,
I like the way you think. Having a designated drive is always a plus allowing for one to have a few drinks. I prefer celebrations where you can just take the elevator home or spend the night with the party giver. Needless to say, I don't go out much these days. I just fire up the ole blender and make frozen margaritas or have a nice cold Carona when I'm in the mood for a few drinks.
I will have a designated drive with me at the reunion. My sweetie has agreeded to go and I can tell you this is a guy who has never met a stranger. I swear he was only down here from New Your a week and people knew him. We went to a local restruant and the locals were greeting him by name. I asked him how it was that I have lived down here 20 years and I was an unknown but he was here a week and was treated like a long lost relative. Ha!
I guess I need to make travel arrangements and hope I won't start a new job before the reunion.
Carla,
Even if you get a new job - you can tell them that you need that time off when you start. Otherwise, I feel YOUR flu coming on around 8/31/07!
I think Bob Said Mike Woody was in charge of golf...best check with the locals, that are in charge, I just said if anybody organizes it, I am there...I am sure everyone is welcome, we are all the same, no cliques allowed...
Is there a hotel close? I like the idea of not having to drive after the event, too. Guess I will have to google the address and find the nearest hotel just in case I am over served! There is still a chance my wife will come back to the area, but even if she does, I think she would rather spend the night with my folks versus spending it watching me drink with old friends. (I meant the relationship's were old not the people (please no one take offense!)
Bill: In the save the date email they sent out, there was a listing of hotels that are around there.
Linda--is there a block of rooms set aside for our group? If a block is set up, the rates are usually less expensive than they would be if we just book individually. Just an FYI.
Deb and Bill - Since you are the first to ask me about a block of hotel rooms, I'm not sure the need exists. If more people want a group of rooms, you gotta let me know and I'll see what can be done.
There are 3 motels fairly close but it would sill require a ride from Julia's to the motel.
If anyone thinks they'll need a ride to a motel, let me know so we can work out the details ahead of time.
There may be a hotel that offers shuttle service if you're staying with them. We do here at mine. If not, there are always cabs.
I was informed yesterday -
If we know who all will need transportation to hotels in the area in advance of the reunion, we have a classmate who can hook us up IN STYLE! Just let me know and we'll get you on the list.
Bill if there is no golf set up for the reunion attendies and a group wants to get together I might be able to help. Daughter boy friend is head greens keeper a golf course in Staunton. Just let me know and will scare him into it I mean talk him to him about it.
hey, debbie v, for some time now steve shaw has agreed to set up golfing at a course in alton or very nearby. many of our classmates regularly golf as a group, especially when bob meyers is in town. anyone who's interested should contact steve shaw at SShaw@american-community.com.
This is what I like to see. People working together to make things happen. We will need a hotel room. I'm not sure about transportation. If we fly in we will rent a car.
We don't golf but it's nice to see that arrangements are being made for those who do and we have multiple volunteers to get things set up. I hope to make it to the Beer tent at the homecomming Fri. evening. I'm glad Bill pointed out that there are no cliques allowed. I feel that we are all on an even playing field and there is no need to feel akward about participating in any of the reunion activities. All anyone needs to do is be prepared to meet with a great group of folks and have fun.
Wow Bob, you just broke the first rule of sandbagging...never talk about your good rounds right before you bet. Sounds like I will need 3 a side to make the bet even! ;-) I am still trying to find the back of the ball myself, so advantage to BOB...at least for now.
