Some of these are hitting too close to the heart. We had a great time Saturday night. The committee did a great job putting it together. Thanks to all of you.
Patty
A flood of wonderful memories continues today after this weekend. I am so very appreciative and humbled that Gwen made the effort to find me and Steve gave me a ride. Please let me share three regrets, though. First, the evening flew by too fast to chat the many amazingly familiar faces. Second, I couldn't remember as many folks as I'd like-regrettable as this will only get worse and worse(just like the song titles above). And lastly, I didn't push to have Steve Davenport read one of his poems to the group. The room was full of talented folks, but as a ringleader, and creative genius, it would have been a treat to hear it from the artist himself. You can always go buy his books.
So it's adios for now. Maybe our paths will cross again, maybe not, but it was a great ride.
dear Hitchhiker
I agree the time flew by too fast.
You probably would have been the only one to convince Steve to read a poem or two, so I'm sorry I didn't mention it to you. It's not hard to find out where he gives readings so there's nothing stopping us from showing up and asking really intelligent questions afterwards. (I'm sometimes too positive) :-)
I believe in these two things. Nothing profound so don't brace yourself for genius.
Since my life is all about time, I have decided to take more control over it. More I cans and less I can'ts.
and this is a small world we live in, so our paths will cross.
I'm sure of it.
If you ever need a shot of bethalto, stick out your thumb, one of us will be along shortly.
Having spent a good deal of time with the planning process, my belief was that I would welcome the time after the reunion when my thoughts were not consumed with flowers, smiley faces, peace signs, tie dye and the like. However, I have surprised myself today with feelings of disappointment now that our reunion weekend is over.
Truly, what a wonderful group of people we are. All of the angst and anxiety that any of us felt about attending this reunion seemed to simply disappear. As a whole, maturity has tempered our individual personalities in a very becoming manner. Everyone was genuinely happy to see one another. And even after 35 years our older, physical appearance was not as significant as one would think. After all, we are all the same age and no one is immune to the process.
We talked a little bit of our accomplishments and our families, but none boasted about acquired wealth or the lack of it. The best part was that of nostalgic conversation, recalling long lost details of humorous memories. I can tell you without hesitation, that I am extremely proud to be one of the CMHS Class of 1972 and of everyone who was ever a part of it.
To the committee: Wow! That WAS fun! Let's don't do it again.
Gwennie and Lois I second those thoughts and I'd like to add for those people we didn't know very well in school...I've learned that old classmates can become new friends.
I agree with all of you. Carla and I had a fantastic time both nights thanks to the hard work of a few people. I can't thank you all enough. There ARE many wonderful people from our class and I hope that this helps to rekindle some old and new friendships. I know that I saw people that I never thought that I'd see again, and I'm so glad that I did. It truly was a blast from the past.
Thanks to all of you for making an appearance at our 35th high school reunion. It was great seeing all of you. There wasn't nearly enough time to talk to everyone on THAT night but I do want to hear from you in the future.
To everyone who said "Please don't let the blog die" - it's up to all of you now. We need freah input - from everyone. I'm fairly certain that none of us intend to stop posting on the blog - it will just be different topics.
I'm not sure about the others on the committee but I've already been approached regarding a class float trip in Montana with Talk's gang as well as a another bon-fire in October - nothing definite yet. But it just goes to prove that many of us still want to continue to get together in person AND on-line.
Please continue to let me know if your contact information changes - I will do my best to keep that information up-to-date for everyone and will email it out if there are any changes.
Some of you know that this was my very first reunion and I had no idea what to expect and was incredibly nervous but you guys were great. I want to thank all of you for reaching out to your classmates in friendship. I had a wonderful time and hope you all did, too.
Tim, please take care of Cal, I know he'll be happy in his new home.
Hitchhiker, it is too bad the doctor didn't do a reading for us. Maybe he'll publish an ode to the 35th reunion on the blog for us to enjoy and ponder.
The evening went much too quickly. And for those that say, why do we care about a reunion, Gwennie has summed it up--we were truly happy to see one another.
You've got that right Anna. Cal feels right at home with his new friends. Birds of a different feather flocking together!!
an ode to the reunion? man, i've been working since ninth grade on my ode to anna f.
Buy some brown shoe polish and pick up an old alarm clock at a yard sale. The smell alone could get some creative juices flowin', but the visual would really put you into high gear.
