No Nursing Homes For Us
No nursing home for us. We are checking into the Holiday Inn!
With the average cost for a nursing home care costing $188.00 per day, there is a better way when we get old & feeble. We have already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it's $49.23 per night. That leaves $138.77 a day for: Breakfast, lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service, laundry, gratuities and special TV movies. Plus, they provide a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge and washer-dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap.
$5 worth of tips a day will have the entire staff scrambling to help you. They treat you like a customer, not a patient. There is a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free. The handicap bus will also pick you up (if you fake a decent limp).
To meet other nice people, call a church bus on Sundays.
For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you're at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise, the cash keeps building up.
It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your reservation today. And you are not stuck in one place forever, you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city. Want to see Hawaii? They have a Holiday Inn there too.
TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem. They fix everything, and apologize for the inconvenience.
The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they will call the undertaker or an ambulance.
If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.
And no worries about visits from family. They will always be glad to find you, and probably check in for a few days mini-vacation. The grandkids can use the pool. What more can you ask for?
So, when we reach that golden age, we'll face it with a grin. Just forward all our email to: Holiday Inn

Thanks to Rich Hendrix for forwarding me this little tidbit. A humorous and somewhat practical solution in my mind.
Nursing homes actually crossed my mind earlier this week on Monday when I fell and broke my ankle. (Confined to a wheelchair for at least a month right now.) It's mentally depressing to HAVE to rely on someone else to help you do some very simple things. It's amazing how some folks around you know exactly what you need and others seem to be totally unable to put themselves in your position to understand what needs done next.
Don't get me wrong - I'm thankful that it's only a couple of broken bones that will heal. I'm also thankful for the lady from Laclede Gas who stopped her car and called 911 for me while I was writhing in pain on the icy sidewalk less than a block from where I work. She also had a blanket she placed under me as best she could until the paramedics arrived. Also, I'm thankful for my neighbors who walked over to my house and laid on the horn to wake my housemate up to come to the hospital and pick me up. AND, I'm VERY thankful that my computer is now on the first floor where I can get to it!!!
I guess I'm having a delayed Thanksgiving here while I watch INCHES of snow fall from the sky.
Anyhoo, I like the thought of making my reservations at the Holiday Inn!
Sorry to hear about your ankle, Linda. Prayers going up for a speedy recovery.
Yep, you guys are getting OUR normal winter weather. Looks like you will have a WHITE CHRISTMAS. We have snow on the ground, but we haven't had any fresh for a week or so and not that much total.
I thought the Holiday Inn sounded pretty good, too.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
Enjoy OUR snow!!
Linda, what a time to break your ankle...as if there were ever a good time. I hope you heal quickly. Considering your confinement (sounds like prison) I hope you find stuff to do to occupy your time. Maybe work on some of that creative writing you have been wanting to do. Hugs to you and Merry Christmas despite the wheelchair.
Even more proof that you're a team-player, Linda. You waited until after Reunion Weekend to break your ankle. Only an Angel would do that.
Linda, is this the same sidewalk you had a run-in with last year?
Want me to send my boys over to rough up the contractor? Bust up the sidewalk? Carry you around on their shoulders (you might really want to consider this one).
I agree with Steve (he's fainting), your timing was good as respects the reunion.
If there's really something I can do for you, you know where to reach me. Eagles Nest, back booth. Face forward.

a real email forthcoming
Linda, Sorry to hear of your misfortune. But, dont forget you have a friend that lives 2 min away from you now AND you have my phone number. If you need anything, please dont hesitate to call. And I def will go with Lois' boys to rough up the contractor. After buying this house, I am getting really good at it!
Linda,
So sorry to hear about your mishap. Hope you are healing up and will be good as new soon. I keep hoping for a little snow here for Christmas but it doesn't seem likely. We are fortunate to be getting some rain this weekend.
I will be joining y'all at the Holiday Inn when the time comes. What a great idea. Makes sense to me. Ha!
Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes.
I really think the Holiday Inn idea is a good one if we're healthy enough. Maybe WE should all go together and invest in our own chain of senior citizen hotels and make some money while we wait until we're old enough to use the hotels! And when the time does come for us to use our reservations, we'll have each other to spend our 2nd childhoods with.
Hey Linda,
What do ya mean 2nd childhood. I think I'm already working on my 3rd at least. I just refuse to grow up, well at least in my heart.
I like your investment idea. Think of the fun we could have. Think of the mischief we could all get into.
That all sounds great except for the part about "waiting 'till we're old enough". Waitin' SUCKS.
I'm for headin' to the Holiday Inn, RIGHT NOW.
Sorry to hear about your mishap, Linda. Hope your recovery is quick.
One of the doctors that my wife works for deals with a lot of nursing homes and he has said for years that it would be a lot cheaper to take a continuous world cruise than staying in a nursing home. That sounds even better than the Holiday Inn. You've got your food, entertainment, ship doctor, maid, and you see the world. We could have one continuous class reunion. Of course, we may not remember each other day to day.
Tim, you beat me to it. I'm not on this site as much since our reunion is over, so I'm a little late on reading about Linda's mishap. You can upgrade from Holiday Inn to most ships for less. You may not know that some retirees or other eccentrics live on vessels year-round. I've often wondered if they have family anywhere. Linda darlin, I DO hope you have your Christmas shopping done. Let's hope that since it's a holiday season, you'll have loved ones that will take care of you. Try to enjoy. In the meantime, check this out and see if it can make you smile. They're excellent. Merry Christmas.
