I heard about you driving it on the sidewalk but I thought it was just an urban legend! What a hoodlum you were. Do you remember trying to teach me how to drive this car? I don't know how many times I stalled it out but between killing it and jerking through the gears, you must have had a tremendous amount of patience. There was a payback for me this year: I taught our 3 older girls how to drive their Dad's car, which has a stick. I have never been car sick in my life (except in my youth where alcohol played a part)but I was completely miserable that day. You must be made of sturdier stuff, Steve. I don't remember you being ill but I DO remember lots of swearing that day.

OK, I remember this car, but no memory of a sidewalk. Steve, you were TEACHING Deb how to drive this car??? You were always a nice guy, but that took alot of guts. I can almost hear those gears grinding; or was that your teeth?

dennis, dennis, i wish it had been new. my dad bought it at a used car lot in wood river for $750 and i had to drive it home up that long hill (6th street?) and on home through rosewood heights. i learned how to use the stick shift on the way. i still remember that traffic stopped behind me halfway up that hill when i had to stop so someone could turn left in front of me and i didn't know you had to go back to first gear to get going again. my dad pulled over, backed up, got out of his car, leaned into mine as best he could, and put it into first gear. and that was it. the car lasted all of two years before it was done. bob meyers probably remembers it as well as i do. i used to think it was half bird when a semi went by me in the opposie direction. that baby was light.

That's 9th street hill and it was a killer for a novice shifter.

It was a new car to us....when it's your first couple of rides they seem new even when they're not.....;-)...& I can identify w/ the 'bird' feelings.....flying across I-70 in South Dakota in the middle of the night passing semi trucks while on a scooter gives ya that feeling.....;-D
