Memories for just a quarter...

Remember the photo booth at the Bethalto Homecoming circa 1969? If memory serves correctly, you got a strip of four pictures for a quarter. Don't know where the other three shots of these girls wandered off to, but I'm sure they were equally as lovely as this one.

Aren't those young girls cute. Very good picture of you Debbie! What is that sticking out of your mouth, I guess when you took pictures like that back then you never dreamed there would be a way someone could post it on the web and millions of people could see it 35 or 40 years later huh?

I can think of things I'd much rather do w/ my tongue other than punchin' a hole in it!!....oowweeee!....just the thought of it hurts......

I'll get you for this Gwen! I hope all of you notice that Gwen's picture is great while mine is....certainly NOT great! If the rest of them were as flattering, I bet I stole them from you and burned them! I hope to goodness that no one comes up with some of the ones I'm thinking of. This is BAD but I shudder when I think of some of the other ones. Let's just say I was never very photogenic...
I just re-read that & it sounds kinda smarmy. Nothing nasty, people. Just REALLY REALLY UGLY.

The gloves are off, Gwennie. I'm gonna ask my Mom to start looking through our old albums. Now you're gonna get it!! (bet you feel pretty threatened, huh??)
Sheri--how did you know about the tongue ring???
Talk: what in the world does cameltoed ABBA mean? Did I miss something here on the blog? Or am I once again proving I'm un-cool?

Ewww, I'm scared! Bring 'em on, Debbie Lynn. Here's my promise to you...whatever pics you find, I'll post...and I'll search harder for those other three photo booth pics, too. Up against the rope, girlie! :-)

Wish me well you all. My husband and I are heading to NC for a week of vacation. We're meeting our future daughter in law and her parents for the first time. We married off a daugher four years ago and now this son of mine...my baby, is making the plunge. I hope we like her. Any helpful hints? What if she doesn't measure up? What if we don't measure up???

Sheri,
Love your son and back him up on his choices in life.
Find SOMETHING to like about her - it's a sign of class.
Ain't nothing worse than a kid knowing his/her parents and his lifemate choice are at odds with one another. So, go, have fun, go see the beautiful sights and enjoy your visit with your son. She will think you guys are wonderful since you raised HER lifemate choice!

Sheri,
I will be in NC too this week. I am sure that your future daughter-in-law will measure up. After all, your son loves her so she has to have some qualities that you will love. All will go well, I'm sure. Have fun and enjoy.

Well, y'all saw what one of those photo machines did to that hat on my head in an earlier posting. Those photo booths are evil...they cause even the most normal? people to do the strangest things. Good Gene Simmons impression Deb.
I think the photo I had taken was at McCrorys and I know I was in the 7th grade and a time when my hair still had pigment without being artificially enduced. I have given up the dye bottle and my hair is 100% natural. I don't have to pay to have my hair frosted...I have natural frosting. I have let nature take her course..for better or worse. Gravity is not a kind force. I'm just thankful I did not have a hummingbird tatooed on my boob. By now that bird would be feeding on naval lint. Not an attractive visual is it?
Anyway, we all need to search our old photo albums and boxes and see who else fell under the evil photo booth spell.

Leave the tape measure/yard stick at home Sheri.
Find a photo booth and get your picture taken together.
Stick your tongue out.
happy ending.

North Carolina must be the vacation spot this year...we have a trip to Myrtle Beach planned over Memorial Day. I have no motherly advice to give you Sheri (no kids of my own), nor would you particularly want to take my mother-in-law advice either (I have had two monster-in-laws...oops, I mean mother-in-laws). However, I would agree with Linda & Carla that the commonality here is your son and you both love him. Go and have fun!

Carla, I laughed out loud at your hummingbird scenario. I, too, have things pointing at the ground that didn't used to be. Maybe we should approach Victoria Secret with some "ladies of fifty" support ideas. Wouldn't those make some good TV commercials???

At Tue Apr 10, 10:49:00 AM CDT, Blogger Deb Parsons Mooney said...

Sheri--don't worry. As these other very wise women said: you raised him, she loves him so it follows that she'll/you'll love each other. And if not...shoot her.
Carla, I LOVED the naval lint. Got tears in my eyes.
Gwen, my dear, you're right: the gloves are off. Now all I have to do is find those !@#$% boxes of pictures that I always said I'd put into albums.....
Lois, your advice is priceless.
Now, I have to go look up that ABBA picture Dennis was talking about in the archives. The plot thickens

Deb,
Go to the right side of the home page under 'archives' and check out 1-07-07 for the Abba photo and resulting comments. There are probably a lot of postings in the archives you'll want to check out to catch up. It is a good thing you are back on the blog to defend yourself.

Hi, Anna! So good to hear from you. Thanks for the directionsto ABBA-land. As it turns out, I went to the archives last night and read ALL of the items. Something about needing to get a life.....
At any rate, I found the ABBA shot and had a great time reading and even re-reading everything. I got caught up a little with you by reading it. Are you going to make it to the reunion? Sure hope so. I may even come in a couple of days early to get a head start!

Speaking of who's attending, has anyone heard from any people about who is gonna come and who can't? Especially those who live so far away. If we got an idea of who isn't, we could start pressuring them now to come and maybe wear them down. Coercion works--just ask my kids.
Linda, that sounds like info you'd have. Have you heard from anyone who says they are NOT coming yet other than those who said so on the contact list? If so, put their names up here and let's start working on them.

At Wed Apr 11, 08:18:00 PM CDT, Blogger Anna Banana said...

Deb, I do plan to attend the reunion. I believe this will be the first for Gwennie and Linda so maybe some other folks can be coerced into attending. Will probably come in Saturday morning, just waiting for Southwest the put the September flights on sale.

Anna and Debbie and Everyone,

Actually Gwennie has been to at least one previous reunion. I'm the reunion-virgin. Wow! That was strange to hear that word come out of my mouth!

Deb - Those who show up at the reunion will be welcomed and those who don't will be greatly missed.

After talking to many of our classmates, I believe there is a NEW ATTITUDE that is taking place in most of our lives. A desire to reconnect now that many of us are empty-nesters. I personaly would love to see a record-breaking number of our classmates attend and have been working towards that end for awhile now.

As much as I like the blog - it is rather public. Some folks prefer to connect via email or by phone. THEREFORE, I challenge everyone one of you to REACH OUT and connect with one of our classmates per week. Especially those without an email listed on the contact list. Do you have a special memory of someone or owe someone an apology? Then, call them or send them a card. I owed Janice Kellerman an apology and connected with her last fall. This is how we'll really have a complete reunion whether we actually get to see everyone in one place or not.

There, I've said my piece. The End.

At Thu Apr 12, 04:28:00 PM CDT, Blogger Deb Parsons Mooney said...

What a nice idea, Linda. I'll take you up on the suggestion. I don't think I'll opt for the apology thing--there might be so many that I wouldn't get finished until AFTER the reunion. So, I'll just hope that whoever I offended will have forgotten by this time and if you haven't, I'm sorry if I was a jerk to anybody.

I owe Kathy McDaniel, Linda and Claudia emails so maybe I'll start with them.

I STILL would love it if more people got on here. Every time I start reading, I think of somebody else I'd love to hear from and it's so much fun to hear from so many people! I just got a wonderful email from the nefarious picture taker, Gwennie. I'll write back soon Gwen. I hope you got mine, Lois. Anybody else wanna be penpals?? I'm not a very prompt correspondent but I make up for that with rambling length!

Virgin Linda is right, anna-banana. I did attend our 10 year reunion. I was very thin then, so maybe you didn't see me. THAT WON'T be a problem this time! :-)
NEFARIOUS! That's a jab to the jaw, Deb. I had to look the word up only to find out that you weren't paying me a compliment. You better duck! I'm looking through more pictures!

At Fri Apr 13, 09:48:00 AM CDT, Blogger Anna Banana said...

Gwennie, the 10 year reunion is the only one my hubby came to and all he did was sit and grumble, so he isn't invited anymore. I didn't get to visit much so that's why I don't remember seeing you there. Surely I didn't miss you because you got lost in the crowd as you are always a standout.

At Fri Apr 13, 10:38:00 AM CDT, Blogger lois said...

Wow! I've never seen a quarter get so much mileage.

I'm sitting here waiting for the dualing photos.

Just two words Debbie. Photo Shop.
shh...don't tell Gwen I told you.

At Fri Apr 13, 12:26:00 PM CDT, Blogger Deb Parsons Mooney said...

Two words, Lo: Dumb Debbie--I have NO idea how to photo shop but my kids do, so Gwennie, you better watch out!
Anna, I agree with you about the spouses. I went to one of his earlier reunions and everybody just looked at me like "did she go to school with us??" It's also true that you don't get to visit as much if you're worrying about the spouse , whether he's having a good time or not, etc. plus, none of the classmates want to talk to the spouse. So, mine's not coming either. Anybody up for a slumber party?? (Those of you of the female gender, of course).

At Fri Apr 13, 05:03:00 PM CDT, Blogger Gwennie said...

Well, I was liking the idea of the slumber party until you made it exclusively female. Also, I think classmates are like children...no one loves them like you do.

Hey, I'll go for a co-ed party, but I'm afraid everyone will run screaning from the place when I put on my jammies. If everyone else i game, so am I. See Steve: I am NOT a goodie 2 shoes! I am cutting edge all the way, buddy, and do'nt you forget it!

Bye, again.

At Fri Apr 13, 07:10:00 PM CDT, Blogger lois said...

Debbie, you almost had me thinking you were cutting edge until you said jammies.
ha.
Have the kids help you with the photo shop to even stand a chance dueling (that's the correct spelling this time) with the photo queen.
this should be fun.
I will be mateless at our reunion. It's a gift to him from me.
I gotta go put on my "jammies" now.

At Sat Apr 14, 05:58:00 AM CDT, Blogger Rich Hendrix said...

uhh hmm! Am I the only one who has figured it out?? "Dumb Debbie"...I don't think so! Who needs Photo Shop and OLD photos if you have "Real Time" photos, in color, from a current Slumber Party. Sorry, Deb...BUSTED

Coed Slumber Party, hmmm. NOT FOR ME! The thought of being around that many hormonal, liquored up women just scares the hell out of me.LOL

Yes, but it's the wise chicken that keeps his head off the block. I did learn a few things growin' up in a house full of girls.
Perhaps not enough, as I married into a family full of girls. LOL

At Sun Apr 15, 10:15:00 AM CDT, Blogger Deb Parsons Mooney said...

Poor Lois, you just don't know anything: "jammies" is a code word for spy-related activities!!So....I really am cutting edge. I'd give you my spy name but then I'd probably have to kill you so no can do. I want to see you too much at the reunion and you write too many funny things here on the blog.

Moving on: Gwen, I think you're right about those chickens although Rich's thought about hormonal women has quite a bit of merit. So, Gwennie, we can just have the all-woman one and we can all talk about how we've stayed exctly the same while THEY have all changed. There's some beauty in that, after all.

At Sun Apr 15, 10:54:00 PM CDT, Blogger BillRobinson said...

I can not understand how wisdom can be confused wth cowardice. Come on Gwen! I can't ever remember being invited to one of the slumber parties back then, we are just giving you all room, to talk about who ever you all want ha ha

At Sun Apr 15, 11:03:00 PM CDT, Blogger lois said...

Okay 00-Debbie...but you better make this a BYOF party (bring your own fan) or it could get ugly.
I'm also in favor of lying to each other about how we haven't changed. Works for me.
And just out of curiosity would your spy name have something to do with a "nickel"?
SNAP! I love it when my memory kicks in!

At Tue Apr 17, 01:21:00 PM CDT, Blogger Deb Parsons Mooney said...

Very clever, Lois. Did the Flit remind you of that name??? I kinda like Double-O Deb myself. MAybe not as descriptive but it had a ring to it, don'cha know.
If we're gonna have this slumber party, is there a hotel near the boat where we can have it or are we gonna descend on some unsuspecting classmate? That'll teach em to NOT get on the blog!

At Tue Apr 17, 04:49:00 PM CDT, Blogger lois said...

I must confess 00-Deb, I only remember some guys kidding you about a nickel or the nickel song...I never knew what it was about. And I don't know who Flit is. Does Flit know who they are?
If we were really going to have a slumber party, I'd have to vote for Bob & Mona's or Bill's and plan it for January.
Just a thought.

Scottsdale Arizona in January, or San Diego would be nice in January. Northern California, it might only be 58 Degrees, and could be rainy. But come on out, No reason we couldn't have a west coast party!
